(From our Press Release)

Flight One software today announced pending updates to Flight Director 99. This new update gives further compatibility with FS2000. In fact, this version is only FS2000 compatible. Previous updates only allowed minimal operations in FS2000.

The new version features better weather processing and other data optimizations for FS2000. It also contains two unique new features.

The Terminal Procedure Viewer. This allows you the ability to view and use SIDs and STARs in a visual hierarchical tree. For example, you can select an airport from the Standard Terminal Arrival list, then open this airport to view the STARS associated with this airport, then you can open the STAR and a list of transitions for this STAR are shown. Finally you click on the transition and a window appears with a list and graphical representation of the STAR. The same works for SIDs, and the data can be inserted directly into a Flight Director flight plan or exported in a standard format. An extensive SID/STAR database is also included.

MiniFD Executable. This mini-Flight Director 99 executable is a streamlined version of the main executable that updates FS2000 weather with your regular METAR files from the internet, and it also has a timed feature for automatic downloading during long flights. But also unique to this executable is a small window that you can place in FS2000 that gives you weather reports as the weather changes, and allows you to call weather reports for almost anywhere in the world. So for example, if you are flying that Adventure, and you want to check what the winds are ahead of you at your arrival airport, just key in the ICAO code and you will be presented with the forecast for that airport. This is not the weather where your aircraft is, but what the weather will be when you arrive at that airport. You can then plan what runway to land on, or change the assigned runway that your adventure assigned you if it is not correct.

Flight One president Steve Halpern states "It has been a very busy year for us, and we have had so many things to work on. A new version of Flight Director was, and is, being put together, but we realized that it would take too long to do an all new edition for FS2000. We in no way wanted to abandon the Flight Director franchise, and we know users of Flight Director 99 have been asking for a long time to have greater compatibility with FS2000. So we put a push into existing code, as well as some new code, and are making this a free upgrade to existing Flight Director 99 users. Also, new users will find many enjoyable features if they have never experienced Flight Director before. For new users, the new Flight Director 99 will be made available soon in a low-cost download.

Flight One has posted the first build of the update for existing users on their web site at http://www.flight1.com. After a short trial period, a full installation in a single download for new users will be available, as well as the final update version for existing users.

You can find out about Flight Director 99 at http://www.flight1.com/fd.htm.

If you are an existing user of Flight Director 99, you can download the updates now! These files are very new, and rather than having an extended beta test, we are releasing them during a public trial period. In fact, one of you may be the 4th person to install this version! For most it should work fine, but with all the new system types out there we felt this was the best way to test things.

If you have problems installing or using this update, then let us know at support@flight1.com. We will want your notes during the trial phase (please note that we may not be able to respond to all tral period mails). We still plan on supporting most of the features in Flight Director, but please bear in mind that a few features that are still included can't be fully supported. This includes some of the text only, and text-to-speech ATC features (although it should still work fine for many people).

The documentation is not 100% complete, but it should tell you enough to get started.

To update Flight Director 99, you will need your original Flight Director 99 edition installed in your system. The update will have to be installed to this original installation. This update is in 2 parts. Please note that Flight One can't make any warranties or obligations regarding the use of the following files.

1. Core System Files (fd_system.exe 3.9MB). These are the latest Microsoft VB6 runtimes and other FD99 support files. You need to install these first, then download the fd992k.exe below.

-Run the above file fist then run the 2nd update-

2. Flight Director 1.2 for FS2000 (fd992k.exe- 4.8MB). This is Build 1 of the update.

The above files come as self installing EXE files. Please do not post or distribute them.
